When the first children's village opened in 1949, the family welcome provided by SOS Children's Villages was clearly different from the large impersonal structures of orphanages. And this is what makes SOS Children's Villages unique today: children who can no longer grow up with their parents find a warm and loving home with us.

We work for orphaned, abandoned children or those who cannot be cared for by their own families. We give these children the opportunity to create lasting relationships within a new family. Our family approach in an SOS children's village is based on four principles: each child needs a mother, grows as naturally as possible with brothers and sisters, lives in a house that is his, in an environment conducive to his development constituted by a village.
