The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has been working in Ecuador since 1962.
GIZ works in Ecuador on behalf of the German Federal Government. The priority areas of Ecuadorian-German cooperation are:
GIZ, in cooperation with the Ecuadorian Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and provincial and district administrations, promotes the sustainable use of the country’s natural resources. The aim is to stabilise ecosystems and make people more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
A further focus of Ecuadorian-German cooperation is sustainable urban development. For example, in this field GIZ is advising four cities (Cuenca, Portoviejo, Loja and Lago Agrio) in a pilot project on topics such as urban mobility and sustainable energy, security, adaptation to climate change and the improvement of residential areas.
