Terms of reference:

The Consultant will provide services teaching English as a foreign language to an adult serving a prison sentence.

Job Title: English Teacher

Location: Montserrat

Contract length: 3 months, starting 4th March 2025

Reports to: Palladium Team Leader, Montserrat

Person specification:

- Certified TESOL/CELTA or equivalent TEFL qualification preferred. Proven EFL teaching experience is essential. DELTA or equivalent qualification is desirable.

- Native or near-native level of English is essential

- Experience working in cross cultural settings and teaching students from a range of cultures is desirable

- Experience working with vulnerable adults is desirable

Job Summary:

The teacher will provide personalised support to the individual in order to improve their English language skills (verbal and written). The primary objective is to enable them to integrate into the wider prison population, which is English-speaking.

The teacher should assess the student’s current ability and plan a syllabus accordingly that supports this objective. The teacher should tailor their method to best suit the student’s needs and learning style, and monitor the student’s progress over time to ensure they reach their potential.

Scope of work will be 2hrs per day, 6 days per week. Palladium are looking to secure the services of an English teacher for a minimum three-month period and maximum of five months. Our client reserves the right to stand-down the teaching provision over the course of the contract.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Instructional Support

· Subject Tutoring: Provide teaching of English language, ensuring the students understand the material and can apply concepts effectively.

· Customized Learning Plans: Develop and implement individualised learning plan based on the student’s academic needs and goals.

· Teaching Methods: Utilise a variety of teaching techniques and strategies to cater for the student’s learning style and ability.

· Homework: Assign and correct assignments to ensure the student’s grasp of underlying concepts.

2. Assessment and Feedback

· Academic Assessment: Assess student’s performance through quizzes, tests, and other methods to identify areas for improvement.

· Progress Monitoring: Track and document student’s progress, providing regular feedback to the Team Leader

· Goal Setting: Assist student in setting academic goals and create actionable steps to achieve them.

3. Study Skills Development

· Study Techniques: Teach effective study habits and time management to improve the student's overall performance.

· Motivation and Confidence: Encourage and motivate the student, helping to build their confidence in their English language abilities.

· Resource Development: Develop and share educational resources, such as worksheets, practice exercises, and study guides, to support student learning.

4. Administrative Duties

· Session Planning: Plan and prepare for each teaching session, ensuring all necessary materials and resources are ready.

· Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and session notes.

· Reporting: Prepare weekly reports on the student’s progress
