WWF has been active in Romania since 2000 and is working in the framework of the regional Danube-Carpathian Programme toward securing the globally significant natural values in the region as well as developing WWF’s long-term capacity and effectiveness to promote its priorities in the country.
WWF-DCP/Romania has a team of 25 qualified and dedicated people working in three offices: Bucuresti, Brasov and Baia Mare, with a wide range of partners and using a variety of tools to engage and mobilize a movement to support nature conservation.
The Country Manager plays two major roles: she/he represents and manages the operations of WWF-DCP/Romania and leads the development of the WWF-DCP/Romania programme within the framework of the WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme Strategic Plan. The Country Manager is the key person for promoting WWF initiatives in Romania and for creating and maintaining relationships with corporate partners, NGOs, institutions and public authorities.
WWF has initiated an innovative pilot project on the Oas-Gutai plateau in the beautiful mountainous Maramures region of northwest Romania. The goal of this One Europe, More Nature (OEMN) initiative is to protect and restore a biodiversity-rich mosaic of natural and semi-natural grasslands and meadows, while increasing incomes for local residents and farmers.
