About
The Institute for Future Studies is an independent research foundation for interdisciplinary research on issues that are of great importance to how we shape our future society.
WHY WE EXIST
Our business is based on the insights of the 1960s that we humans in many ways influence not only our own lives but also future generations. As a result of an investigation led by Alva Myrdal, the government started the Secretariat for Future Studies in 1973, which in 1987 was transformed into the independent research foundation Institute for Future Studies.
What makes the institute special is that all research conducted here must have a long-term perspective and clear relevance for our future. The subjects studied are regularly changed, creating a dynamic research environment. Here, researchers from a range of preferably social and human science disciplines mix and collaborate, today including sociology, philosophy, political science, business economics and psychology. Interdisciplinarity is an exciting breeding ground for new questions and perspectives.
