In 1947, the Hospital was established by borrowing 2 (two) wards of the Mental Hospital which had been established since 1942 as surgical and internal medicine wards which were the forerunner to the establishment of the Dadi General Hospital (RSU).
In 1957, Dadi Hospital located on Jalan Lanto Dg. Pasewang No. 43 Makassar as a Level I Regional Government Hospital of South Sulawesi and in 1993 became a Hospital with classification B. The development of the Hospital was moved to Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan Km. 11 Makassar, adjacent to the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University.
In 1994, RSU Dadi changed into a vertical hospital owned by the Ministry of Health with the name of the Central General Hospital (RSUP) dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo based on the Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 540/SK/VI/1994 as a Class A Hospital and as a Teaching Hospital as well as the highest Referral Hospital in the Eastern Indonesia Region.
On December 10, 1995, Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo General Hospital was designated as a Self-Funded Hospital Unit and in 1998 Law No. 30 of 1997 was issued, changing it to a Non-Tax State Revenue User Unit (PNBP).
With the issuance of Government Regulation No. 125 of 2000, Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo General Hospital changed its institutional status to a State-Owned Company (Perjan), which lasted for five years and ended in 2005. Then based on Government Regulation No. 23 of 2005 concerning the financial management of Public Service Agencies (BLU), Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 1243/MenKes/SK/VII/2005 dated August 11, 2005 concerning the determination of 13 Former PERJAN Hospitals to become UPT DEPKES with the implementation of the PPK-BLU pattern, and Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 1677/MenKes/Per/XII/2005 concerning the Organization and Work Procedures of Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo General Hospital Makassar, since January 2006 the RSWS institution has changed to a Technical Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Health with the Financial Management Pattern of Public Service Agencies. Starting in 2008, centers were built that aimed to help the community to obtain maximum services, such as the Gastroentero Hepatology Center, Infection Center, Private Care Center, Mother and Child Center.
