Prime Life Insurance Limited

Prime Insurance was established in 1995 as COGEAR Ltd, a licensed general and life insurance company authorized by the National Bank of Rwanda (NBR). In December 2011, COGEAR created Prime Life Assurance Ltd to comply with the regulator’s directive to separate its general and non-life insurance businesses, and also to expand its business to provide long-term (life) insurance policies. The regulator authorized Prime Life Assurance Ltd in May 2012.

In 2017, Prime Insurance Ltd. and Prime Life Insurance Ltd. became entirely Rwandan, through the acquisition of the main shareholding by Rwanda Mountain Tea and Kitabi Tea Company in Prime Insurance and Rwanda Mountain Tea and SP Aviation in Prime Life. Both companies were owned in majority by American shareholders through Greenoaks Global Holdings. Prime Insurance Ltd and Prime Life Insurance Ltd are insurance companies accredited by the National Bank of Rwanda to provide short-term and life insurance.
