Zanzibar Federation of Disabled People Organisations

The SHIJWAZA is an umbrella organisation of 12 Disabled People Organisations in Zanzibar. It was established and officially registered in 2014 for the purpose of advocating for the equal rights, privileges, opportunities and interests of people with disabilities, as per the country's constitution. The objectives of the organisation are to unite associations of people with disabilities, parents, guardians, and affiliated organizations, advocate for equal rights and opportunities, build SHIJUWAZA member associations' capacity, represent people with disabilities in decision-making bodies, collaborate with local and foreign institutions, and ensure inclusion in the country's interests. The list of the 12 organisation members is (1) the Organization of People with Disabilities in Zanzibar (UWZ), (2) the Zanzibar National Association of the Blind (ZANAB), (3) Zanzibar Association for People with Developmental Disabilities (ZAPDD), (4) Zanzibar Association of People with Albinism (JMZ), (5) Zanzibar Association of Women with Disabilities (JUWAUZA), (6) Zanzibar Association of the Deaf (CHAVIZA), (7) Zanzibar Association of the Sign Language Interpreter (JUWALAZA), (8) Zanzibar Amputee Football Federation (SADz), (9) Zanzibar Special Olympics (SOZ), (10) Zanzibar Society for Road Safety for People with Disabilities (11) Zanzibar Centre for Disabilities Development (ZACEDID) and (12) Zanzibar Association of Down Syndrome Children (ZADOC).
