Westnetz is the electricity and gas distribution network operator in western Germany. Based in Dortmund, we are a 100 percent subsidiary of the energy company Westenergie AG. We operate networks from different owners, which we make available to all market participants without discrimination. We build, plan and operate a network from Emsland to the Hunsrück, from the Dutch border to the Weserbergland. With 5,800 employees, 175,000 km of electricity and 24,000 km of gas network, we at Westnetz have been ensuring for many years that western Germany has a trouble-free and efficient supply of energy around the clock.

And today? The current challenges for network operators are enormous. The energy turnaround in Germany and the world and the increasing decentralization through photovoltaics and wind energy present us with major challenges. Today, electricity no longer just flows in one direction, from the generator to the consumer, but also vice versa - and that with constant, weather-related supply fluctuations. We at Westnetz are actively involved in shaping the energy transition - through the future-oriented expansion and conversion of the infrastructure, modern processes and innovative technologies.
