About

Força Aérea Portuguesa (FAP) was created on July 1, 1952, constituting itself as an independent branch, in parallel with the Army and the Navy and integrating the aviation incorporated in those branches.

The Air Force's weapon systems have characteristics that are highly specialized in relation to other branches, such as speed, mobility, range and flexibility of use, whether in operations with exclusive means or in joint or combined operations. Hence, the best use of these characteristics requires organizational, functional and relational solutions of this branch, which emphasize the centralization of command and control and decentralization of execution, as well as the relevance of functional organization.
