Institute for Political Studies of Defense and Military History

  The Institute for Defense Policy Studies and Military History is a scientific research structure of the Ministry of National Defense and operates under the Department for Defense Policy and Planning. It is certified by the Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation/National Authority for Scientific Research as an institution capable of carrying out scientific research.
    The Institute for Defense Policy Studies and Military History covers three areas of research: international security; defense policy; military history by initiating and developing fundamental and applied research.

     Its duties cover:

the development and publication of analyses, studies and expertise in the field of security (national, regional and international, especially in the Western Balkans and in the extended Black Sea region) and defense, which is constantly changing;
presentation of the current aspects of the transformation process within NATO, the EU and within the Romanian Army;
the research of Romanian and universal military history in order to correctly assess the current and prospective evolution of Romanian society;
formation of security culture and military historical culture of army personnel;
participation in domestic and international scientific life, in order to strengthen Romania's status as a member country of NATO and the EU;
studying the aspects regarding the provisions of the European Neighborhood Policy of the EU in the relationship with the states in the east and south-east of Europe, especially those regarding energy security;
monitoring the ongoing military conflicts in the world, but also the situation in the area of "frozen" conflicts and, in general, the security environment in the Extended Black Sea Region;
informing the military and civilian personnel from the commandos and garrisons about the issue of national and international defense security and military history;
the dissemination and promotion among the target audience of the values of national and international military history, the remembrance and critical evaluation of the past, the homage and honoring of the deeds of arms of the predecessors, the assumption of their errors, the identification of all the lessons resulting from the campaigns and battles fought by the Romanian Army;
cultivating respect for European values of culture and civilization, promoting the spirit of tolerance and understanding between ethnic groups, peoples and nations, developing civic spirit and awareness of moral duty;
the contribution to the formation of a general security culture aimed at facilitating the understanding of the current developments of national and international security, of the political-military dimension of the National Security Strategy, in the context of Romania's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union;
reflecting the participation of the Institute for Political Studies of Defense and Military History in the international exchange of ideas on European and Euro-Atlantic security issues;
introducing the magazines edited by the Institute into the international publishing circuit.
