About

Settlement Services International is a community-based not-for-profit organisation providing a range of services in the areas of refugee settlement, migrant support services, asylum seeker assistance, housing, multicultural foster care, disability support, employment services and youth support in NSW.

From a staff of one in April 2011, SSI now has more than 450 employees, 130 Bilingual Guides and 250 volunteers in 2017.

SSI is committed to ensuring that people in vulnerable communities in NSW are supported and resourced to fulfill their potential as members of the Australian community.

Refugees and people seeking asylum

SSI provides support and assistance to the majority of people in NSW on refugee and bridging visas.

SSI's Housing Services division provides housing assistance to refugees, humanitarian entrants and people seeking asylum once they start living in the community.

The organisation values difference and the right to self-determination for the people we support, as well as meaningful social and economic inclusion in Australian society.

Some of SSI's services are delivered at the local level with staff co-located at the offices of member Migrant Resource Centres.

SSI Foster Care

SSI works with young people and parents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD), as well as families with an early intervention focus. At the end of June 2015, SSI Foster Care was providing care and support to 110 children from 38 different cultural backgrounds.

Vision

The organisation’s vision is to achieve a society that values the diversity of its people and actively provides support to ensure meaningful social and economic participation and to assist individuals and families to reach their potential. Formed in 2000, SSI is also the state-wide umbrella organisation for 11 Migrant Resource Centres and Multicultural Services across NSW.

From a staff of one in April 2011, SSI now has more than 500 employees and 250 volunteers in 2016. Their predominantly bilingual and cross-cultural workforce, which can speak 98 languages, enables them to overcome many cultural and language barriers that can inhibit access and good service delivery.

With its head office located in Ashfield, Sydney, SSI’s services are delivered from offices strategically located around Sydney and from the placement of case managers, bilingual workers and volunteers at Migrant Resource Centres in NSW.

SSI’s combined services cover parts of the Sydney metropolitan area as well as the Hunter-Central Coast, Illawarra and Western NSW.
