About
The Styrian Monitoring Committee is an independent committee that monitors compliance with and implementation of the rights of people with disabilities within the meaning of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, UN-BRK).
People with disabilities include people who have long-term physical, psychological, intellectual or sensory impairments which, in combination with various barriers, can prevent them from participating fully and effectively in society on an equal basis with others (Article 1 sentence 2 CRPD). ).
In 2008, Austria and Styria committed themselves to complying with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The Styrian Monitoring Committee has the legal task (according to § 53 of the Styrian Disability Act) to check matters of state implementation or of general importance for people with disabilities for their compatibility with the UN Disability Rights Convention and to submit statements and recommendations to the state government.
