About
CHAI began work in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in 2016, supporting the government to improve access to family planning tools, including contraception. Through a partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), we worked with the government’s National Reproductive Health Program to develop and institute a national quantification guide to more effectively estimate contraceptive needs to improve choices for women. Since then, CHAI has helped the government understand its needs across health systems to better deliver healthcare, including the creation of an electronic logistics management information system.
CHAI is helping to increase access to newer and more effective HIV medications and diagnostic tools, including point-of-care testing, to link patients to care more quickly and effectively. We are working to reduce deaths from malaria—one of the leading causes of mortality for children under five, helping to launch, alongside our partners, an operational research study to introduce rectal artesunate. This treatment, which is administered in the community before reaching a health facility, will save the lives of children.
