ELA - Equipo Latinoamericano de Justicia y Género

Our mission is to achieve gender equity through advocacy, networking and capacity development of political and social actors, in order to improve the social, political and economic situation of women.

Founded in May 2003 in the City of Buenos Aires, ELA is integrated by an interdisciplinary team of specialists with experience in the State, Universities and Research Centers, International Organizations, legal practice and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Our Objectives are:

• Critically analyze the law -the institutions, norms, judicial decisions, doctrinal opinions, practices and actors of the legal world- and public policies from a gender perspective, reviewing their effects on social relations between women and men.
  
• Propose institutional reforms to democratize the judicial system and promote compliance with international human rights obligations.
  
• Improve access to justice, particularly for disadvantaged groups.
  
• Promote actions and collaborate in the design of public policies that promote the exercise of women's human rights, encouraging the inclusion of their demands in the local, national and regional public agenda.
  
• To establish ourselves as a reference for consultation on the areas of our specialty, for the actions undertaken by government agencies, and in research and projects promoted by other study centers and related organizations.
