About

IPAI, set up as a Society in 1996, is a not for profit organization comprising of specialists in public finance with focus on public accounting and auditing. The Institute has over 1800 members on its roll spread all over India. Its members are serving and former officers of the foremost financial services of The Government of India, largely drawn from the Indian Audit & Accounts Service (IA&AS) and other Central Accounts Services as also the senior accounts and audit professionals with diverse experience in public oversight and financial management functions. The Comptroller & Auditor General of India is the Patron of the Society.
Mr. J. N. Gupta, former Dy. Comptroller & Auditor General is the President and Mr. P. K. Mukhopadhyay, former Director General of Audit, Supreme Audit Institution of India and former Director (External Audit) in the Food & Agriculture Organization of UN and Chief Resident Auditor, Peace Keeping Operations, Office of the Internal Oversight Services, United Nations is the Vice-President of the Institute. The Institute is governed by a Central Council of 13 members elected for a three year term. The central office of the Institute is located at New Delhi and has 18 regional chapters spread across the country viz. Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, Ranchi, Srinagar (J&K), Shimla, and Thiruvananthapuram.
The Institute admits members only after they meet stringent eligibility criteria. These members have wide experience in public sector financial management, accounting and auditing functions and related activities. Members of the Institute are professionally qualified in these fields and many of them have held senior positions in Government and Public Sector Enterprises. The prime expertise of the resource persons of the Institute is in the realm of financial management, external and internal audit, procurement and performance audit of Socio-economic and infrastructure programmes of the Central and State Governments and Local Self Governments up to PR level. IPAI also has experts who are experienced in monitoring and evaluation of projects and schemes in other sectors.
