The White Helmets

The White Helmets (Syria Civil Defence) is the largest and most trusted local service provider in Syria. In the last 10 years we delivered impartial humanitarian assistance in the most challenging circumstances, while enjoying the support of local communities and maintaining independence from de facto authorities. 

While best known for our search and rescue efforts that have saved more than 128,000 lives from under the rubble, we provide all 15 activities listed under the responsibilities of civil defence in international law. In addition we led the emergency response during the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2023 earthquake in Northern Syria.
