About
In the beginning there is the book office. In the summer of 1992 , Hermann Gummerer and Ludwig Paulmichl set up a book-related service company in Bozen and Vienna. They offer translation, editorial work and project management for the book industry.
The first program
This resulted in today's Folio Verlag with its two offices in Bolzano and Vienna. An order book for Haflinger horses, for which we should also organize the distribution, helped us on the jumps!
In the spring of 1994 the first program was launched. The book with the ISBN number 000 is the German/Japanese volume of poetry "Flowers" by Peter Waterhouse.
What is important to us
A central concern of the publishing house was and is to cultivate cultural exchange - even in times of crisis and across borders and ethnic groups.
As South Tyroleans, the two publishers are aware of how fragile peaceful coexistence between different language communities can be. For this reason, they were interested in the crisis situation in Southeast Europe from the start and brought together those literary voices from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia who were committed to a common future.
Cooperation with the OSCE on the anthology “Defending the Future. Search in mined terrain”, which brought together outstanding peace-loving authors from the crisis region.
Folio appeals to a peaceful, open Europe and to cultural transfer between Southeastern Europe and Central Europe, between Italy and the German-speaking area. Consequently, every book, every author stands for an enlightened society.
