DNV GL's common roots go back to 1864, when Det Norske Veritas (DNV) was founded in Oslo as a multi-company organization. Indeed, Norwegian maritime mutual insurance companies came together to consolidate a framework of uniform regulations and procedures, to be used to determine the insurance risk of individual ships. The group aimed to create "a reliable classification and taxation system for Norwegian ships".

Our open industry assurance platform Veracity, cyber security and software solutions support business-critical activities across many industries, including maritime, energy and healthcare.
