Description: White River NF Macroinvertebrate Lab Analysis

Scope of contract: Processing/analysis of up to 100 macroinvertebrate samples over two years:

  • Sort, identify, and enumerate aquatic macroinvertebrate samples. Ten Surber samples taken from fast-water units to make up each sample (10 Surber samples aggregated)
  • process the benthic macroinvertebrate samples to the standards of the method described by Barbour and others (1999)
  • search the remaining sample for large/rare taxa not encountered in the subsample. Large or rare taxa not likely present in the picked grids will be picked to 100%
  • During sorting, to retain all portions of the sample (extracted organisms, sorted detritus, unsorted detritus)
  • place closely related taxa (e.g., order) into vials labeled with the sample identification number, and date
  • Midges and oligochaetes will be slide mounted by the contractor as needed for identification
