Description

Project Title: Comprehensive Community-Based HIV Prevention, Counselling and Testing Programme for Reduced HIV Incidence (CBCT)

Description: The Comprehensive Community-Based HIV Prevention, Counselling and Testing Programme for Reduced HIV Incidence (CBCT) project helps to identify, develop and implement strategies to expand and strengthen high-quality, community-based HIV counseling and testing models for key populations in high-incident communities in South Africa. The project focuses on effective and sustainable linkages and referral systems to HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care and treatment services.  A goal of the project is to increase the uptake of prevention and treatment services, strengthen referrals and optimize effective linkages to community health facilities to minimize loss to follow-up among key populations in the eThekwini and Ugu municipal districts of the KwaZulu-Natal province.

In addition to direct service delivery, FHI 360 will provide technical assistance and capacity strengthening to the Department of Health and community-based organizations to effectively implement quality measurement systems in community settings, rapidly integrate data on linkage outcomes to drive real-time program modifications and successfully execute protocols for individuals who do not have HIV, such as referrals of men for voluntary medical male circumcision. We will also provide sensitization trainings for providers in health care facilities and government clinics, with a particular focus on providing HIV counseling and testing services and linkages to hard-to-reach areas. Across the region, FHI 360 has strengthened efforts by governments to respond to tuberculosis (TB). Our experience in TB includes early case detection, diagnosis and treatment; strengthening of laboratory capacity; management of drug-resistant TB; management of TB/HIV co-infection; and health systems strengthening.FHI 360 supports the development and implementation of national nutrition policies, strategies, programs, and systems that result in sustainable nutrition service delivery at both the health facility and community levels. FHI 360 strengthens the technical and institutional capacity of NGOs, CBOs, and networks, helping them to achieve measurable and sustainable results while adapting strategically to evolving conditions and responding to new opportunities. Our approach combines training, mentoring, and tailored technical assistance across key areas of organizational development and technical expertise.

The project is led by the Foundation for Professional Development in collaboration with FHI 360.
