USAID Business Forecast: Quarter 2 of 2019

The timely delivery of business data is crucial when seeking success. With business forecasts on hand, any organization can start to plan proposals or application submissions to ensure early engagement with the procurement process. For those who have already worked with USAID or are planning to, here are some insights from the Agency’s Business Forecast for the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Funding by sector

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, the health sector will see an investment of more than 2 billion USD from USAID – the highest of all the sectors. For projects in the economic growth and trade sector, almost 1.4 billion USD are set aside. The education sector follows with a planned investment of 880 million USD. Funding of 800 million USD will be directed to democracy, human rights and governance projects whilst for the environment and climate change sector, USAID is planning to finance projects totalling more than 500 million USD. For agriculture and food security the planned investment is 450 million USD and water and sanitation will receive funding of just over 300 million USD.

Funding by region

With regard to the distribution of funding by region, East Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia are at the top of the list with an average of 1.3 billion USD each. West Africa and South Asia will receive more than 600 million USD per region while the funding for North Africa and East Asia and the Pacific exceeds 500 million USD each. The region receiving the least funding for projects is Southeast Europe with 185 million USD.

Projects receiving the highest funding

GH New Partners Initiatives: PROSPER, a project worth 500m – 749.99m USD, is the largest of the projects due to be announced by USAID. This APS will promote the objectives of the Office of the Assistant Administrator to expand partnerships with new and under-utilized organizations working within the health sector.

The Integrated Child and Youth Development Activity project in Uganda will build upon previous investments from USAID and focus on accelerating improvements in children and youth learning outcomes. The overall goal of ICYD is to improve the likelihood of young people being able to achieve resilient lives and adapt to economic and social dynamics in a changing Uganda. The total estimated budget is 100m – 299.99m USD.

The National Technical Assistance Program and Urban Health Initiative projects, both based in Afghanistan and estimated at 100m – 299.99m USD each, are designed to improve health outcomes through greater sustainability, performance management and better governance together with improvements in health in urban areas as well as health outcomes for vulnerable populations in urban settings.

The Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA) will announce the APS for the Active Communities – Effective States project which is aimed at providing technical assistance and advisory services, training and direct program implementation to support good governance, transparency and accountability in host countries. Activities will be within one or more of the following technical areas: good governance and anti-corruption, strengthening the legislative function/legal framework; decentralization and local governance; rule of law and security sector reform; and strengthening oversight mechanisms. The total estimated budget is 100m – 299.99m USD.

It offers an early insight to the grants, contracts and cooperative agreements that USAID is in the process of developing and plans to issue within the coming year.
