About the event
Join us on 16-17 September 2025 at The Square in Brussels for the European Research & Innovation (R&I) Days 2025! The sixth edition of the European Commission’s flagship event brings together policymakers, researchers, and business leaders to shape Europe’s research and innovation agenda. This year’s event comes at a pivotal moment for debates on the EU’s next long-term budget and major policy files.
Across two days and more than 20 sessions, the programme explores Europe’s competitiveness and industrial leadership, including debates on the Startup and Scaleup Strategy, the European Life Sciences Strategy, the AI in Science Strategy and the European Innovation and European Research Area Acts. From high-level panels to hands-on breakouts and focused networking, Research and Innovation Days link policy with real-world impact.
The programme features a keynote by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and opening remarks by the Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva. Speakers include leading voices from EU institutions, science and industry – among them Commission Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen and author and science communicator Lucy Hawking.
Research & Innovation Days 2025 Exhibition
This year’s R&I Days Exhibition showcases outstanding projects which are bringing real impact to European citizens and economy.
From cycling clothes made of bio-based products to AI-tools assisting blind people in their walks, from needle-free injections to a digital twin of our oceans, this year’s exhibition is presenting concrete examples of how EU funds to research and innovation are vital to improve our lives.
Some of the EU-funded projects started in the lab and are now startups or collaborating with well-known brands. European consumers and other businesses are benefitting from their technologies and products.
