UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, which promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimensions of sustainable development within the United Nations system. UNEP serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
UNEP was established during the UN Conference on the Human Environment in 15th of December 1972. It has since provided leadership on environmental issues and encourages partnerships in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.
