On behalf of the Italian government, the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructures and Mobility (Ministero delle Infrastrutture e della Mobilità Sostenibili or MIMS) is responsible for all transportation infrastructure (roads, highways, trains, ports and airports) as well as general transportation planning and logistics, particularly for urban transportation systems, with a focus on sustainability.
As such it oversees the design, financing, construction and management of infrastructural networks and public projects within the State's control, urban and housing policies, transportation, traffic and logistics activities in the area including navigation, security, maritime transport and inland waterways, civil aviation and air transport and circulation, safety and land transport.
