In 1975, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) was formally established as an international non-profit organization based in Brussels.
It serves as a business enabler in Europe, reducing trade restrictions for European industry and consumers with the aim of promoting the European economy in global trade, the welfare of European citizens and environmental protection.
CEN is a key provider of European Standards and technical guidelines and is the only authorized European institution for the design, development and approval of these in all sectors of economic activity with the exception of electrotechnology (CENELEC) and telecommunications (ETSI).
