The Norwegian Consumer Agency is a Norwegian state administrative body that safeguards consumer protection through enforcement of laws and regulations. The Norwegian Consumer Agency supervises that the marketing of goods and services takes place in accordance with the Marketing Act, and ensures that agreements consumers must enter into when they shop are not illegal. The Norwegian Consumer Agency also provides guidance to businesses on the regulations. From 2021, the Authority will also mediate in disputes between consumers and businesses.
The administrative body was established in 1973 as the Consumer Ombudsman. The name was changed to the Consumer Ombudsman in 1980, and to the current name in 2018.
