The Nuclear Power Plants Authority for Electricity Generation was established pursuant to Law No. 13 of 1976 and its amendments to Law No. 210 of 2017, to be a public economic authority of a special nature affiliated with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and thus be the only authority competent to establish, operate and manage nuclear power plants in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and its headquarters is located in the city of Cairo. The Authority possesses the national capabilities with scientific competencies and accumulated expertise necessary for the success of its tasks in managing nuclear power plant projects in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The implementation of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project represents the culmination of many years of Egyptian efforts to introduce nuclear energy to Egypt, as plans for the establishment of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant date back to the late 1970s, when site selection procedures began.. The Dabaa Nuclear Power Project aims to build four units of pressurized water reactors PWR of Russian type VVER-1200 (AES-2006) with a capacity of 1200 MW per unit, the selected pressurized water reactors are the most common type of reactor worldwide.
