An Ethiopian government ministry named the Ministry of Peace was established in 2018 with the goals of promoting peace processes to avoid and end violent conflict in the country and to assist fair development across Ethiopia's Regions.
Peace, democracy, and development are the three major pillars on which MOP is centered. It supports the building of political unification across the nation and the upkeep of law and order. It aims to preserve peace and understanding among all religions and ideologies.
The MOP is in charge of a number of organizations, including the Main Department for Immigration & Nationality Affairs, the Federal Police Commission, the Information Network Security Agency, the National Disaster Risk Management Commission, and the National Intelligence & Security Service (NISS). The Ministry and GIZ reached a partnership agreement in 2020 to enhance access to communities affected by the drought and educate women and young people about peacekeeping and the resolution of conflicts.
