The UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Organization, is set in the world to protect people who are forced to flee because of conflict or persecution.
This applies to refugees who have sought refuge in another country; asylum seekers who have applied for international protection; internally displaced people seeking security in other parts of their home country; and the people who, after fleeing, return home.
The UNHCR is also working to end statelessness and to secure the rights of millions of stateless people worldwide.
Together with partners, including governments, authorities, NGOs, and communities, we work to ensure that everyone has the right to seek asylum and get to safety. We are also working to find lasting solutions. We provide protection, roofing, health care and education, which is vital for people on the run to rebuild their lives after war and conflict.
