Under the Prime Minister’s authority, the Republic of Senegal’s Ministry of Health and Social Action plans and implements the country’s health, preventive health and social action plans.
The Directorate-General for Health is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring health policies and organizing and overseeing the execution of healthcare initiatives. Under the National Social Action Policy it is the responsibility of the Ministry to ensure that all Senegalese, whether living in urban or rural areas, have access to adequate health care.
The Ministry also undertakes tasks such as encouraging the training of doctors and health personnel and facilitating their establishment in areas where there are currently none, preparing and enforcing legislation and regulations relating to the medical, paramedical and pharmaceutical professions. It is mainly concerned with women, children, workers, the elderly, and the disabled.
