Over 66 tonnes of humanitarian stocks from Ireland began their journey to Gaza. The stocks – including tents, blankets, water cans, and other vital household items – are stored in Dubai as part of Ireland’s Rapid Response Initiative. This allows for stocks to be deployed anywhere in the world at short notice.
From Dubai, 66 tonnes of Ireland’s stocks will travel by road to Jordan, and then onward to Gaza where they will be provided to people in desperate need of humanitarian aid. They will be distributed in Gaza by Ireland’s humanitarian partners Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the Jordanian Hashemite Charitable Organization (JHCO). The timetable for their delivery to people will be determined when the stocks arrive at the border.
This latest delivery of stocks follows on from 50 tonnes of similar aid from Ireland being distributed to people in Gaza in December. Ireland is deeply concerned by the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Half the population of Gaza faces imminent famine and 100% of the population faces acute food insecurity.
In February, Ireland announced an additional contribution of €20 million to support the vital work of UNRWA in Gaza.
