The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, announced that Canada is allocating the remaining $16.2 million in funding, from the already announced $60 million, for humanitarian assistance to address needs stemming from the crisis in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and neighbouring areas.
“These allocations will help support Canada’s partners in addressing the critical and immediate needs of civilians affected by the humanitarian crisis,” Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development.
This funding supports United Nations and Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement appeals and will help Canada’s partners provide food, water, emergency medical assistance, protection services, relief items and other life-saving assistance.
The funds are being allocated as follows:
- Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: $3.2 million
- United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East: $10 million
- World Food Programme: $3 million
Canada remains steadfast in its call for compliance with international humanitarian law; the safety and well-being of civilians must be a top priority. Canada continues to urge all parties to actively facilitate rapid, sustained and unimpeded access to essential humanitarian relief for civilians in need, underscoring the collective responsibility to uphold the principles of humanity, dignity and protection for all.
