The Western Balkans continues to see a faster-than-expected recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic with GDP growth from the region projected to reach 4.1% in 2022 and 3.8% in 2023 according to the World Bank. This is due to domestic reopening and favourable external conditions for the region’s exports.
Join British Expertise International as British Ambassadors from the Western Balkans region share insights on geopolitical and economic perspectives as well as a general overview on sectors of potential opportunities and interest to UK companies.
These emerging markets offer many opportunities in sectors such as transport, infrastructure, construction, technology, education, and tourism. The region has seen a lot of development in recent years, with many countries having transformed from some of Europe’s poorest into upper-middle-income economies due to implementing strong reform agendas to support growth and skills development while building capacity in areas such as anti-corruption and rule of law.
Despite the region’s economies being characterised by ‘brown industries’, there exist new and growing opportunities in greening the region’s economies, moving towards green technologies and business models. Through this green transition, the Western Balkans will benefit from a closer integration into Euro-centric global value chains and will increase their access to EU resources to support with funding a green transition.
