According to the Government of Nepal (Division of Work) Regulations, 2074, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology's scope of work is as follows:
Policies, laws, standards, implementation and regulation related to communication and information, telecommunications, information and communication technology;
Telecommunication and broadcasting frequency allocation, tariff determination and mapping, licensing, renewal and regulation of use;
Study, research, promotion and regulation of information and communication technology;
Expansion of microwave systems, international connectivity of bandwidth and use of radio equipment;
policies, laws and standards relating to radio, television, print media and news organizations;
Licensing, renewal and regulation of national radio, television, broadcasting organizations and multicast broadcasting systems;
Downlink of foreign television channel;
policies, laws and standards relating to online media;
Policies, laws and standards on minimum wages for working journalists;
policies, laws and standards relating to public broadcasting, print and broadcasting organizations;
Policies, laws and standards related to the publication of domestic and foreign print broadcasts from Nepal;
National Advertising Policy and Standards;
Postal policies, laws, standards, operations and regulations;
Publication, storage and records management of postage stamps;
Check service, postal bank and international postal accounting management;
policies, laws and standards relating to films and cinemas;
security printing;
Printing, distribution and archiving of Nepal Gazette;
Journalistic Code of Conduct;
use of satellites;
Promotion of Information Technology, National Information Technology Center and Information Technology Park;
cyber security;
National Information Commission;
Press Council, Central Press Registrar, Nepal Telecommunication Authority and Film Development Board;
Treaties, agreements, conventions, contacts and coordination with national international organizations related to the Ministry;
Operation and regulation of public institutions, authorities, committees, foundations, companies etc. related to the Ministry;
Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering Group operation of Nepal Engineering Service.
