FAO assistance in Burundi is centred on four strategic priorities: professionalization and intensification of the agriculture sector, paying particular attention to women, young people and post-conflict returnees as well as producer organizations; sustainable natural resource management, establishing an enabling legislative and institutional environment while facilitating innovative methods and technologies for improved agricultural production and productivity; management and use of agricultural information and statistics for informed, sector-wide decision-making; support to strategic planning and coordination of the agriculture sector, beginning with key national policies and the building of a sound legal framework.
